WellCare covers both brand name and generic drugs. Generic Drugs: Generic drugs contain the same active ingredient formula as brand name drugs. Generic drugs usually cost less than brand name drugs and are rated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be as safe and effective as brand name drugs. Non-Preferred Brand Drugs: Non-preferred drugs are not on the WellCare preferred list. You may continue to use them, but you may pay more.
