Save With Generics

Saving with generic drugs.
Did you know that these days, more than half of all prescriptions are filled with generic drugs? And since some WellCare plans offer you generics at no cost, it makes sense to consider them for your prescription needs. Using generics can really help you save and avoid the coverage gap!

What's the difference between generics and name brands?
A generic drug has been FDA-approved to be the same as a brand name drug in dosage, safety, strength, how it is taken, quality, performance and intended use. Since generics have the same active ingredients and are shown to work the same way in the body, they have the same risks and benefits as their brand name counterparts. They work in the same amount of time, too.

Why do generics cost less?

When a company develops a new drug, they get a patent which allows them to be the only manufacturer of the drug. After a few years, their patents expire and many drug companies can make the same drug. As with most things, when many companies compete for your business, prices go down. So with generics you get the same benefit as before, but at a lower price.

Are generics as safe as brand drugs? According to the FDA, they are...because a generic drug must be the same in dosage, safety, strength, how it is taken, quality, performance and intended use.
